AAR006 – Expat 2020 is the Analog Amigo honcho’s quintessential “pandemic beat tape” and was recorded over a span of 16 months for a total of one beat for 32 days.

As defined by the Dubai-based Filipino creative, this tape triumph is a satirical cornucopia of his pandemic struggles with work, time, money, existential ennui and his stoic efforts of being a survivalist in the metaphorical sewage of the kitschy Dubai cityscape.

It is a 60-minute long journey of a mélange of off-kilter wonky and instrumental hip-hop beats inspired by 80s street soul and r&b jams to ethnic and world rhythms that showcases 199X’s wide-range of sonic sampling propensity. The tape is also tiered with synth and bass vibes that mirrored if not represents the producer’s disposition in the months from the outbreak of the Corona pandemic until before his 2-month long withdrawal in his hometown in the Philippines
